What will happen, in order.
You arrive
Come to the front door any time from 9:30. Someone will greet you and find you a seat. There is nothing to sign and nowhere to check in.
We worship
Singing and prayer in Kinyarwanda. If you do not speak it, the words will still be familiar — and a translator will sit with you if you have told us you are coming.
The Word is preached
Pastor Shaka preaches in Kinyarwanda, translated into English sentence by sentence, so nothing is lost for anyone in the room.
We stay
The gathering runs to 12:30. People greet one another, pray together, and talk. You are welcome to stay for all of it, or to leave when you need to.
Things people ask.
I do not speak Kinyarwanda. Will I understand?
Yes. The whole service is translated into English as it happens, sentence by sentence. Tell us you are coming and we will seat someone beside you.
What should I wear?
Whatever you have. Some come in suits, some in work clothes. Nobody is counting.
Is three hours really three hours?
Yes — 9:30 to 12:30. It is a gathering, not an appointment. Come for as much of it as you are able.
Can I bring my children?
Please do. Children stay with their families in the room, and there is also teaching for them during the service. Everyone who works with children has completed a background check.
I am not from the Great Lakes community. Am I welcome?
Yes. Anyone is welcome here. The service is in Kinyarwanda because that is our congregation's heart language, but everything is translated and you will not be a stranger for long.
I need a ride. Can you help?
Ask. Several of our families drive past most parts of the city on a Sunday morning and would be glad to bring you.
Come and see us this Sunday.
Tell us you are coming and someone will meet you at the door. Write in Kinyarwanda, French, Swahili or English — whichever is easiest.
